A flintlock pistol, which when the hammer was depressed caused a spark to ignite the gunpowder. All of these pistols required manual reloading of their ammunition after each shot. The ammunition, which was fed through the muzzle, consisted of gunpowder, a projectile, and a paper slug that served as a cap to prevent the previous two being compressed inside the barrel.
